Many institutions require accreditation from Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International, or AAALAC, 

AAALAC is a private, nonprofit organization that promotes the humane treatment of animals in science through voluntary accreditation and assessment programs. https://www.aaalac.org/

Therefore, it is increasingly likely that your institutional IACUC will require a protocol when working with E. scolopes for each grant you receive.
